Metal Core PCB


Metal Core PCB, also called MCPCB or thermal PCB, is printed circuit board that use metal material as the heat spreader portion
of pcbs.
 
The use of base metals in the MCPCB in stand of FR4 or CEM3 can dissipate heat away from critical board components and to
less crucial areas such as metallic core or the metal heatsink backing.
      
In general, metal core PCB can be divided into aluminum (aluminum core PCB), copper (copper base PCB) and Iron
(Iron base PCB). The most common is an aluminum core PCB.
 
MPCBs are widely used in following application
Street safety applications (streetlights, lighting, etc.)
LED lighting applications
System automotive LED applications
Power converters: telecom, industrial, high voltage regulator, power supplies
Hybrid/electric motor control applications

Metal core PCBs transfer heat 8 to 9 times faster than FR4 PCBs
